This may be an unpopular opinion, but lately I’ve been getting into Delain, and their two latest releases (The Human Contradiction and Moonbathers) seem very hit or miss. I do love the songs that are hits, but I feel like Delain’s best album is April Rain. Maybe the other two albums will grow on me some more, but that’s how I feel right now.
You’re not wrong. Looking back on the ratings I gave Delain’s albums in my music app (I now use MusicBee after getting sick of iTunes’ buggy programming), April Rain gets the highest marks. I rated all but four of the tracks as 5 stars. I also have a soft spot in my heart for Lucidity, because “Sever” is still my favourite Delain track after all these years (though “Control the Storm” runs a very close second).
April Rain was their peak as a band, and would be hard to top, but I’d be very happy if they could just be more consistent in the quality level of their output.
“Suckerpunch” was such a tease. It’s a good song, but the rest of Moonbathers didn’t live up it. I was so disappointed with the rest of the album. 🙁
